oegyeinjaesince im a filthy caleb main and caleb’s new myth trailer dropped yesterday, i wanted to make a post yapping about calebmc and the new myth a little bit. tw for discussion of lads canon accurate shipcest and mild suggestive-ness
i want to say im a BIG fan of the taboo aspects of caleb mc. i love that infold is leaning into it in the english translation now because wahhhhh when caleb calls mc his baby sister i scream! but ive always been a big believer that calebmc is so much more than just a taboo shipcest story, and i really like the direction lads is going in with caleb (although im a firm believer that the signs were written on the wall in big bold text from the very beginning)
i love the way calebmc’s bond is shown in the myth. yin and yang, two sides of the same coin, literally born from a twin lotus. siblings, not by blood necessarily — because their birth isnt a natural one — but by circumstance. but its so much more than that as well. yes they’re siblings, they grow up together in every universe, they see each other in that familial role, caleb as the doting big brother and mc as the sweet baby sister, but their bond is so much deeper than that. they are LITERALLY two halves of a whole. they are each others better halves, but also their undoing. they are connected on such a deep level that their bond transcends that of blood siblings or even the soulmates bond that all the other lads boys have with mc.
the taboo aspect is that they see each other as siblings, yes, but also that they are part of each other. loving the other is like loving themselves because their body and souls are so deeply intertwined. they are connected on such a deep level not just in the myths or the banners but in the main story too. in every universe they find themselves created from the same source, like adam and eve they are created from a part of the other. its in escapable. and thats what dooms them. they cant escape each other, destined to complete each other just as much as they are made to destroy each other. caleb is mc’s perfect match but also the perfect counter to her. he is everything that she is and also everything that she’s not. they are both so similar and yet they represent to sides of a struggle thats destined to go on forever, across a million timelines.
and thats why the yin yang symbolism is so important. they represent parts that live in perfect harmony, completing each other completely, but never able to have each other. there is part of the other in each of them but they aren’t allowed to mix, not completely, not i the way they long to. forced to complete each other, but never able to become one again. and i absolutely think thats what caleb and mc want, to fall back into each other, creating a whole again, not as two parts but one complete being, which is where they started out from. to be one with each other like they were long ago.
i just rahhhh i love how doomed they are and how crazy they are about each other. i love that they are intrinsically tied together, bound by their creation, born from the same source, and forced in every universe to be kept apart one way or the other, never able to become one with the other again. wahhh im just excited about the new myth, i want them to be together forever but theyre just never going to get their happy ending, only fleeting moments they can share with each other, that they have to cherish forever, because they both know that in the end they are always forced to oppose the other, one way or the other.
